If you aren’t familiar, Yirra Yaakin (Yir-raarh Yaarh-kin) which means “Stand Tall” in Noongar language, is Australia’s largest Aboriginal performing arts organisations producing award-winning, world-class theatre that is exciting, entertaining, educational, authentic and culturally appropriate. We are incredibly lucky that they call Subiaco home.

Description

The Sum of Us is a beautiful tale of a strong family bond, ageing, queerness and the dance we all do when searching for love. Written by David Stevens, The Sum of Us will be performed by an Australian First Nations cast in a 2.5 hour production spiced with Latin dancing and great music from the 1990s. In an industry where Indigenous people are constantly asked to relive their trauma instead of normalising good relationships, this play is about a beautiful father-son relationship and their search for love. This is the first time Yirra Yaakin has produced a play with a focus on queer identity. It will be presented as part of the need to display functional and dysfunctional families and represent First Nations people as contemporary, dynamic and evolutionary members of society.

How's a guy supposed to find Mr. Right when his father is always up in his business? That's the premise of this warm comedy that revolves around the comfortable relationship between widower Harry and his son Jeff. A beautiful tale of a strong family bond, ageing, queerness and the dance we all do when searching for love, this is Yirra Yaakin's first queer work. Performed by an Australian First Nations cast; it is a story that no culture is exempt from. Balancing humour and pathos, The Sum of Us remains as relevant today as it was 30 years ago.

The Producers (Winner of 12 Tony awards) a musical with fast paced humour drawing on ridiculous accents, caricatures, and many show business in-jokes, was adapted for stage by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan from Brooks’ 1967 film of the same name with lyrics and music composed and written by Brooks. The plot is simple: a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, thereby bilking their backers (all "little old ladies") out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit!

So exactly how do you follow a global smash-hit juggernaut tour of 300 performances across 40 countries? With a phenomenal new show that doesn’t have a theme or a twist or require any trigger warnings. ‘Daniel Sloss: HUBRIS’ is the next chapter in this odyssey.

The extraordinary ‘X’ tour toured non stop for 17 months across the globe, with extra dates also selling out as fast as they could be added  – throughout Europe, UK, U.S., Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and even packing a Moscow arena (becoming Russia’s biggest-ever English language comedy show). The film of ‘X’ is now showing on HBO in U.S. and Canada and became the first UK comedy special to make its UK premiere in cinemas, with its nationwide release at Vue.

Daniel’s previous two Netflix specials ‘DARK’ & ‘Jigsaw’ are streaming in 190 countries, 26 languages with the infamous ‘Jigsaw’ now credited with breaking up over 75,000 couples and cited in over 130 divorces world-wide (with fans even bringing their divorce papers for him to autograph at shows).

He has sold out six New York solo off-Broadway seasons, appeared on U.S TV’s ‘Conan’ ten times, broken box office records at the world’s biggest arts festival in Edinburgh and toured in over 50 countries.
